Re: College President Announcement

I am very pleased to announce that Jonathan Palmer has accepted the Board of Trustees’ appointment as President of Principia College, effective July 1, 2008.

Dr. Palmer brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to the post. He is currently Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a tenured Professor at the Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He graduated from Principia College in 1978, received an M.S. from Simmons College in 1979, an M.B.A. from Babson College in 1984, and a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University in 1995. A class-taught Christian Scientist, Jonathan is currently serving as First Reader at his church in Williamsburg, Virginia.

He and his wife, Susan (Ferguson, C’79), have two children. Their daughter Katie (US’05) is currently a Trustee Scholar in her junior year at Principia College. Jeremy is a freshman at McGill University in Montreal.

Dr. Palmer will succeed Dr. George Moffett as College President. Principia owes a huge debt of gratitude to George for his 11 years of leadership. We are also very grateful to Dr. Tom Fuller for filling the presidential role as Interim Dean of the College for the current academic year.

Jonathan Palmer was the unanimous choice of the Search Committee after an extensive search process that included three Advisory Committees representing College faculty, staff, and students/alumni/parents. All those involved provided an overwhelming endorsement of his qualifications.

Jonathan and Susan will travel to Principia next week and expect to make a number of such visits to campus during the transition. We look forward to welcoming them to the Principia community.
