John Williams was appointed to the faculty in 1983. Before coming to Principia, Mr. Williams spent five years with the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. He also has three years experience as a correspondent for The (Alton, Ill.) Telegraph. Mr. Williams is the author of Guide to International Legal Research (Butterworth Legal Publishers, 1990) and editor of Career Preparation and Opportunities in International Law (American Bar Association, second edition, 1984). In 1988 he received the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award. He is completing his doctorate in political communication at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He has directed adult or undergraduate study trips to Vietnam, Mongolia, China and Tibet, and Washington, D.C.

Currently the chair of the Political Science department, he has also served as chair of the Mass Communication department and head of the Social Sciences unit. His professional writings have recently appeared in The Security Journal, The Turkish Journal of Police Studies, and The International Communications Bulletin.
