West Coast Admissions Counselor
Oliver Cooper
![]() When it came time to look at colleges, Oliver had a pretty good idea of what he was looking for. The prospect of going to a big university where his professors and classmates would hardly know him and where it would be all too easy to get lost in the shuffle of student life did not sound attractive. And yet he also hoped to find a school that had ample resources to offer him a wide variety of opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. Having loved his time at a Christian Science summer camp where several of his closest friends went to Principia, Oliver became quickly interested in what Prin had to offer. “After my first meeting with my admissions counselor, Principia still sounded like an unlikely choice for me,” he said. “Yet at the strong encouragement of my friends and family I went on a visiting weekend.” He remembers how easy Principia made it to come out and visit them that he figured, “at the very least, it was a good excuse to come visit some old friends.” Little did he know that this weekend would be the best part of his whole college search process. “I just remembered being ‘wow-ed’ by everyone I met. Everywhere I went there were students who were more than happy to talk with me and give me a genuine perspective of what it was like to go to a school full of Christian Scientists. Even as a visitor I felt included and connected with the community there – I could tell this was a unique place.” Four years later as a graduate, Oliver is confident he made the right choice. “I got to play on a soccer team that competed in the NCAA tournament, travel on an abroad program to Japan, study volcanoes in Hawaii, develop life-long friendships with people who were supportive of my values, all the while getting a first-rate education that has prepared me well for my professional pursuits. How many people can say that?” Travel Schedule
