Whole Man Leadership Scholarships

Annual Value:          ¼ tuition to full tuition

GPA:                         3.0 or higher preferred

The purpose of The Principia is to serve the Cause of Christian Science.  One way this is achieved at Principia College is by emphasizing whole man character education in all aspects of the educational program.   The founder of The Principia, Mary Kimball Morgan, defines whole man education in Education at The Principia:

“Principia education should mean the education of the whole man – physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually, as well as intellectually.”  (p. 69)

Prospective students who have already demonstrated outstanding service and leadership and who are prepared to serve as leaders in the Principia College community are encouraged to apply for the Whole Man Leadership Scholarship.   Scholarship recipients and monetary values are awarded based on the quality and extent of demonstrated service and leadership. 

Successful applicants for this scholarship are those who show development of whole man qualities in:

A demonstrated commitment to Christian Science.

Examples include, but are not limited to:
Church membership with active participation
Published article/s in Christian Science periodicals (or the web)
Employment, service, or participation at a camp or facility for Christian Scientists
Christian Science healings

A demonstrated commitment to academic growth and achievement.

Examples include, but are not limited to:       
Evidence of steady progress or sustained excellence throughout the high school experience
Willing use of educational support resources when necessary
Active involvement in the tutoring of others
Evidence of problem solving
Preferred grade point average of 3.0 or higher

A demonstrated record of leadership in and service to the community.

Examples include, but are not limited to:
Extracurricular activities
Volunteer work in community service organizations
Employment
Scouting

Demonstration of leadership and/or service using moral courage to make decisions and stand on the conclusions reached.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
  • A situation in which you upheld a high moral standard in a personal or group experience
  • A situation in which the outcome of upholding a high moral standard was unfavorable to you
  • A situation in which you embraced a challenge in the spirit of Matthew 18:15-17
Application Process

To apply for this scholarship, you must submit a resume and an essay. The resume should list your involvement in service and leadership roles, indicating, whenever possible, the dates of involvement, hours of commitment, scope of responsibility, and significant contribution. The 300-600 word essay should describe the whole man qualities you expressed in your contributions of service and/or leadership in one or two activities. Please describe the effect you have had [or your contributions have had] on the activity or organization, and on your personal growth and development.

Completed essay and resume must be emailed as attachments to collegeadmissions@principia.edu.

Deadline

The priority deadline is January 15th.  All applications received by the January 15th priority deadline will receive a decision by early February.  Applications submitted after January 15th will be considered after the March 1st regular admissions deadline, and then as funds are available.

Please note: In accordance with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) policy, Principia will not take into consideration a student’s athletic ability, participation or performance.
