When Betty Bigombe speaks, warriors listen. A former Ugandan government minister and consultant to the World Bank, she has been involved in negotiations to end civil war in Uganda. Her initiative to negotiate with the rebel leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, which has been terrorizing her country, began what would be known as the “Bigombe Talks.” In 1993 she was named Uganda’s Woman of the Year for her efforts to end violence. A speaker at Principia’s Pan African Conference in 2006, Bigombe returns as this year’s Pan African keynoter and a Vogel Moral Courage Lecturer.
