Interim Dean of the College, Dr.Thomas H. Fuller
![]() Welcome to our web site and to my web page. From Principia’s bluff-top chapel, one can see more than twenty miles. It’s an inspiring view at any season. Principia’s Founder Mary Kimball Morgan expected that our students would grow to spiritual viewpoints — to see far into humanity’s great needs and to meet those needs. Our students have been doing exactly that for years. Our graduates have actively met needs in Peru, Iraq, Africa, Nepal, Austria, Japan, New Orleans, and as close to home as Alton and East Saint Louis. We’re enormously proud of them. The next President of Principia College (Dr. Jonathan Palmer) took office July 1, 2008. I've enjoyed serving as the Interim Dean of the College. Principia’s purpose is to serve the Cause of Christian Science. As our catalog states: “The mission of Principia College is to provide students of Christian Science with a comprehensive, co-educational program of liberal arts and sciences. The college is committed to academic excellence and character education. It is also dedicated to the spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, and athletic development of each student.” We are deeply committed to shaping education to meet individual needs. Our graduates go on to distinguished careers in many fields and to top universities. To this end we are gifted with a remarkable collection of talented faculty and staff who are deeply devoted to these ideals. Our campus has hosted leaders from many venue: Jimmy Carter, Margaret Thatcher, Colin Powell, Maya Angelou, and Melba Beals. We’ve had six Pulitzer-Prize winning writers such as David McCullough, Horton Foote, and Tom Friedman. Seven Nobel Peace Prize winners have spoken with our undergraduates. As our most recent President George Moffett noted, “Principia may be rural, but it is far from provincial.” Our constant hope is that Principia fulfill the promise of a “city set on a hill [that] cannot be hid.” Thank you for visiting our web site. We’d be delighted to have you visit in person too. Tom Fuller |
