Jeff Strickland Named Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Principia College's Jeff Strickland, a sophomore from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. (Mission Viejo), has been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 1-7.

Strickland placed 74th out of 156 runners at the Madison Kiwanis Invitational hosted by Hanover College, the site of the 2008 NCAA DIII Championships. He was the top finisher for the Panthers, posting a time of 28:47 on the soft, hilly 8K course.

Alicia Girbes-Pierce Earns SLIAC Soccer Player of the Week

 

Principia College's Alicia Girbes-Pierce, a freshman from San Diego, Calif. (Mira Mesa), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of August 29-31.

 

Girbes-Pierce, a 5-5 forward, scored the game-winning goals in both Panther victories this past weekend. She had one goal in a 3-0 victory versus Robert Morris College-Springfield and two goals in a 3-0 win over Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.

Principia College Volleyball Recognized for Academic Excellence

 

LEXINGTON, Ky. (7/29/08) – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that Principia College earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2007-2008 season.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.  Principia’s team GPA was    3.693 for the year.

 

"This result is just phenomenal!" said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "Look at this in context: We have coaches representing about 3,000 different academic institutions. Of that total, 353, or nearly 12%, coach teams with a grade point average of 3.3 or better! How can you not be proud of that?" Principia College competes at the NCAA Division III level, the largest division of the NCAA.
