SLIAC ANNOUNCES 2008 WOMEN'S SOCCER AWARD WINNERS
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams and award winners for the 2008 season were announced today (November 1) during the All-Star Trophy Awards Ceremony following the SLIAC Tournament Championship. Principia College women's soccer swept the special awards, with freshman Alicia Girbes-Pierce claiming both Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors.

Elizabeth Post Scores SLIAC Athlete of the Week
Principia College's Elizabeth Post, a junior from Malibu, Calif., has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 13-19.
Post, a 5-5 midfielder, had two goals and two assists for a total of six points in one game played last week. Post, who is not a starter for the Panthers, helped her squad remain undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 victory over Eureka College. She entered the game after an injury to a teammate and dominated by scoring the two goals and tallying two assists.

Kleinhenz Tackles to SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week
Principia College's Danny Kleinhenz, a junior from Houston, Texas (Memorial), has been named the SLIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 6-12.
Kleinhenz, a 6-2 defensive back, recorded eight solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, had two forced fumbles and one interception for a return of 24 yards in Principia's 14-0 loss on the road at Blackburn. The Panthers' defense forced three turnovers and had two sacks for the game, while allowing only one offensive touchdown.

Erwin Named SLIAC Player of the Week
Principia College's Carey Erwin, a junior from Dallas, Texas (Principia Upper), has been named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 6-12.
Erwin, a 5-8 midfielder/forward, had two goals, including one game-winning goal, and one assist for a total of five points in two games played last week. She scored the lone goal for the Panthers in their first loss of the season, a 3-1 decision at nationally ranked No. 18 Washington University-St. Louis. Erwin also scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Principia's 5-0 shutout on the road at Westminster College.

Speer Earns Third SLIAC Player of the Week
Principia College's Christina Speer, a senior from Chesterfield, Mo./Principia Upper, has been named the SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of October 6-12. This is the third time this season that she has earned the honor.
Speer, a 6-2 middle blocker, had only three errors in 84 total attempts in three matches played last week. She finished the week with 54 kills, 40 digs, six service aces and a .607 attack percentage. Speer had 16 kills, no errors and a .695 attack percentage in a 3-0 victory versus Westminster College. She then had 20 kills, one error, 13 digs, two aces and a .633 attack percentage in a 3-0 victory versus MacMurray College. Finally, she recorded 18 kills, two errors, 14 digs and a .516 attack percentage in a 3-0 win over Eureka College.

Hannah Richards Named SLIAC Athlete of the Week
Principia College's Hannah Richards, a junior from Bellevue, Idaho, has been named the SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of September 22-28.
Richards, a 5-10 outside hitter/middle, recorded 34 kills, hit .259 and tallied six service aces, 46 digs and four blocks in three matches played last week. She had 14 kills, 13 digs, three aces and three blocks in a 3-0 victory versus Eureka. Richards then had 14 kills, 19 digs, one ace and one block in a 3-1 win over Greenville. Finally, she had six kills, 14 digs and two aces in a 3-0 victory at Maryville.

Dahlin Dashes to Sixth and Makes SLIAC Athlete of the Week
Principia College's Adrian Dahlin, a sophomore from Holyoke, Mass. (Principia Upper), has been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 29-October 5.
Dahlin led a pack of three Principia runners to top ten finishes at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College. He placed sixth out of 77 runners competing and helped the Panthers to their first win of the season, as the team finished first out of 10 teams.

Speer
Spikes to SLIAC Player of the Week
Principia College's Christina
Speer, a senior from Chesterfield, Mo. (Principia Upper), has been named the
SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of September 15-21. This is the
second time this season that she has received the honor.
Speer, a 6-2 middle blocker,
recorded 70 kills, 71 digs, 11 service aces and seven blocks in five matches
played last week. She had 17 kills, 15 digs, two aces and hit .323 in
Principia's 3-0 win at Maryville University (Mo.). Then at the very competitive
Simpson Invitational, in which the Panthers went 0-4, she tallied double digits
in kills in three out of four matches and double digits in digs in all four
matches.
Speer had 14 kills, 11 digs and one
block in a 3-0 loss to nationally ranked No. 8 University of St. Thomas. She
recorded seven kills, 16 digs, two aces and two blocks versus Simpson College;
she had 11 kills, 11 digs, two aces and one block versus College of Saint
Benedict. Speer's best outing was a 21 kill, 18 dig, five ace and three solo
block performance in a 3-1 loss to Wartburg College.

Jeff Strickland Named Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Principia College's Jeff Strickland, a sophomore from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. (Mission Viejo), has been named the SLIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of September 1-7.
Strickland placed 74th out of 156 runners at the Madison Kiwanis Invitational hosted by Hanover College, the site of the 2008 NCAA DIII Championships. He was the top finisher for the Panthers, posting a time of 28:47 on the soft, hilly 8K course.

Principia College's Christina Speer, a senior from Chesterfield, Mo. (Principia), has been named the SLIAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of August 29-31.
Speer, a 6-2 outside hitter, led the Panthers to a 4-0 record at the Sewanee Invitational. In 12 sets played she had 58 kills, a .505 hitting percentage, 35 digs, 10 blocks and four service aces. She had a double-double with 18 kills and 15 digs in a three-set win versus Oglethorpe University to open the season. Speer also had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs in another three-set win versus LaGrange College.

Principia
College's Spencer Brown, a sophomore from Camarillo, Calif. (Viewpoint
School), has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week
of August 29-31.
Brown,
a 6-1 forward, led Principia with three goals and two assists as the Panthers
opened the season 2-0 at the Greenville Invitational. He had two goals,
including the game-winner, and one assist in a 7-0 victory versus Robert Morris
College-Springfield. Brown then added one goal and one assist in a 5-1 win over
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Girbes-Pierce, a 5-5 forward, scored the game-winning goals in both Panther victories this past weekend. She had one goal in a 3-0 victory versus Robert Morris College-Springfield and two goals in a 3-0 win over Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.

PrincipiaCollege Volleyball Recognized for Academic Excellence
LEXINGTON, Ky.(7/29/08) – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that PrincipiaCollege earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2007-2008 season.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.Principia’s team GPA was3.693 for the year.
"This result is just phenomenal!" said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "Look at this in context: We have coaches representing about 3,000 different academic institutions. Of that total, 353, or nearly 12%, coach teams with a grade point average of 3.3 or better! How can you not be proud of that?" PrincipiaCollege competes at the NCAA Division III level, the largest division of the NCAA.
