Dear Principia Alum,
In the very heart of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, set into the stone floor right under the center of the great dome, is a memorial plaque to the building’s architect, Sir Christopher Wren. When translated from the original Latin, it states, “If you seek his monument, look around you.” The same could be said for Principia, seeing it not just in the bricks and mortar, but also in the lives of alumni and current students of this very special place.
Both the School and the College take a radically different stand from all other educational institutions. Principia’s students are viewed spiritually, unlimited by apparent material conditions. Their teachers, professors, parents, and administrators strive every day to see them as complete now, free from the downward tug of matter, representing the “whole man” with limitless potential. This was Principia when you were a student, and this is Principia today. This unique approach is how Principia acts as a force for good in the lives of its students. This is how it fulfills its mission “to serve the Cause of Christian Science.” This is how it breaks the barriers implicit in most other educational systems, and helps inspire students to think with clarity and tolerance, to play sports with vigor, courage, and precision, to develop strong, rounded characters, to live satisfying lives of unselfish service.
All this means that alumni, family, and friends have a unique opportunity when giving to Principia to also support the whole concept of Christian Science in education. This is today’s continuing legacy of Mary Kimball Morgan’s vision. We are radical in our challenge to humanity’s normally accepted limitations in our efforts to break up and break out of matter-based thinking and to apply that daily in offering the highest quality of education.
We hope that you, too, have glimpsed this vision and share gratitude for its results in your own life. Broadbased giving to the Annual Fund is essential to Principia’s success and progress. It bridges a significant gap in our annual finances. It opens the door for many deserving students to benefit from a Principia education.
