“Speak the Speech, I Pray You”
Jeff Steele, M.A., Ph.D. candidate, Shakespeare Institute
Come join this fascinating study of the process of bringing the ideas of the page to the limelight of the stage. A skill-building class in the techniques of oral interpretation, this course will show students how to bring life to their reading — both aloud and silently — and gain confidence with the written and spoken word. Whether you enjoy bringing creative expression to reading children's stories for the kids, performing in amateur (or professional) drama productions, or reading spiritual texts from the pulpit and platform, the techniques learned in this class will support and enhance the work of oral expression. The emphasis will be on exploring and working with texts in a workshop format, supplemented with lectures on theory and practical issues. Share the joy and spread the love of learning through doing by “speaking the speech trippingly on the tongue.”
