THE PRINCIPIA BOARD OF TRUSTEES
STATUS OF THE INTERIM DEAN OF THE COLLEGE - LETTER FROM JUDITH FELCH
Interoffice Correspondence

Date:  Febuary 26, 2007

To: The Board of Trustees and The Principia Community
Fm: Judith Felch

Dear Trustees and Members of the Principia Community,

In a letter dated February 12, 1944, Mary Kimball Morgan wrote this opening sentence:

“I am thinking today of the wonderful opportunity that God is offering to Principia at this time” (Education at The Principia 72:4-5).

It certainly appears that a ‘wonderful opportunity’ is available to the College community right now, -- the opportunity for healing.

To forward a healing atmosphere, it seems appropriate that I withdraw from the newly appointed post of Interim Dean of the College. I hope that this decision will help restore an environment in which all of us will be able to more honestly evaluate our goals and actions, and come to mutually respected perspectives.

What am I learning from all the recent stir of events? Many things. Surely, that the partnership of heartfelt listening and earnest dialogue is essential to remaining a functional community. That the need to express purer love is especially necessary in order to help see our way through complex issues. And, that we can never weary of reviewing even our most sincere motives.

Furthermore, I recognize a top priority needs to remain: that of valuing transparent processes within an environment of constructive discourse.

For wide-ranging reasons, the current discomforts so many of us are experiencing are regrettable, though hopefully productive. Mrs. Morgan’s vision for Principia is special. I am valuing the ‘wonderful opportunity’ to ponder that vision more closely.

With respect for all of us involved in this work,

Judith Felch
