These newly elected Trustees will take office immediately. Please help us welcome the new Board members and thank them for their willingness to serve.

The Board is grateful for the community’s input to the Trustee election process through the submission of names for prospective Trustees. We extend an open invitation to continue participating in this way. You may submit suggested names for nomination to the Board through the Trustee website: http://www.prin.edu/trustees/nominate.shtml.

The Board also announces that Willard Hanzlik has stepped off the Board after serving as a Trustee since 1987. At the Board’s request, Willard has agreed to continue to serve as a member of the Investment and Finance Committees and will continue to represent Principia on the Cordstrap board of directors.

We are immensely grateful that we can continue to draw on Willard’s wise counsel and advice regarding financial matters. His devoted leadership and generous contributions to Principia through the years are deeply appreciated. His unflagging dedication to Principia has been a bedrock of support to the institution. We thank Willard and his wife Corde for their ongoing contributions and devotion to the Christ-idea in education.

In addition to electing new Trustees, our meeting included:

  • A review of the Governance Committee’s proposed amendments to Principia’s Bylaws and reorganization of the Board’s committees. We plan to approve the new Bylaws and committees and make committee assignments at a special meeting in June.

  • Approval of the budget for Principia’s fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.

  • Reports from Executive Officer Peter Stevens, Head of School Marilyn Wallace, and Interim Dean of the College Tom Fuller. Jonathan Palmer, the incoming College President, joined us for these reports, and we discussed with him, among other things, plans for his first 100 days in office.

  • A review of the results of the third annual Board evaluations. We expect to continue this annual review process each spring.

  • Committee reports including a report from the Compensation Committee which is continuing its salary review and benchmarking process for all employees, including senior-level positions.

We enjoyed the opportunity to have lunch in the Upper School dining room with students and School faculty and staff on Thursday and Friday. We also attended the Upper School Jazz Band Concert on Friday night. The extraordinary talent and accomplishments of these student musicians reminded us once again of Principia’s remarkable ability to nurture and educate the whole man. We are humbly grateful for every opportunity to witness this education in action and grateful to the educators who work so hard each day to support our students.
