Ann Austin

Dr. Austin is a University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University (MSU), where she has been a faculty member in the College of Education since 1991. Her positions at MSU have included serving as Interim Vice Provost and Associate Vice President for Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs, Interim Dean of the College of Education, Associate Dean for Research, and Assistant Provost for Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs. She has been a Program Director at the National Science Foundation, a U.S. Fulbright Fellow in South Africa, and President of the Association for the Study of Higher Education. Dr. Austin is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association and was one of the co-founders of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning, a multi-university network that prepares doctoral students to be effective teachers. She is a dedicated teacher and active researcher, with projects funded over the years through grants from the National Science Foundation as well as various foundations. Her research has focused on organizational change in higher education, improving teaching and learning, faculty professional development, and creating more inclusive environments in academe. Dr. Austin has published extensively and has a new book on teaching evaluation coming out in September from Harvard Education Press. She is married to John Beck, and they have an active family with three grown children, their spouses, and three delightful little grandsons.
